Unwind....De-stress.....Recharge....
Look over a wide, sweeping bay….
Sun streaming through indigo clouds, silver speckling a gentle sea.
Gannets diving and darting for fish, otters passing, the tumult of life
This is Taft on the East side of the Shetland island of Yell.
Welcome to the self-catering break of a lifetime.
Collage by local artist, Janette Nowak
I am Sarah Hoseason, a Textile Designer and teacher, and I have lived in the Shetland islands most of my life. I am inspired by the beautiful location and surroundings of our home on the east side of Yell, and we want to share that with other people.
Taft, our characterful self-catering
(accommodation) croft, is next door to our home, and we will welcome you
with a Shetland hamper, salt beef, butter, biscuits and bread (with a recipe
to cook our traditional tattie soup), Valhalla beer, and Foords chocolates
made in the neighbouring island of Unst. There is tea and coffee, and even
the local weekly paper, the Shetland Times!
Welcome pack
If you are feeling sociable, living with the local community will give you ample opportunity for learning more about our island culture. Take part in one of my workshops and get to know us a little better.
If you want peace and quiet, there are numerous walks, hike along the shore
to the White Wife and search for treasures cast up by the sea, or saunter
inland, looking at the birds and small indigenous flowers.
